| "The
main characteristic that distinguishes the objects of Giampietro Riposati
is the preziosismo: it is not recognizable as well as in the used
materials, how much in the taste detached for the approach of them,
in the refinement of sure formal solutions in which lines and volumes
compose in a right equilibrium, in the ability to take advantage of
the fusibility of the precious metal to make them assuming the shapes
wished.
They
are objects that impose their ornamental nature also on the practical
funcion which the must acquit.
Besides
the declared partiality for the iconic language, the author picks
the seductive load with harmonious rhythms of the human figure or
animal, where every features, every shape has its reason to exist
and "to express".
It'not
about, however, of simple formal search in naturalistic sense, because
the iconographic repertory of Riposati is populated of fantastic
beings and "monstrous" which can above all be found in
the cultures of the archaic Orientals and Meso-Americans civilizations,
that they realized in those mysterious and fascinating shapes the
feelings and the human fears.
This
is the way that has carried Gianpietro to the creation of fantastic
modern tsubas, with the attempt to respect the ancient technique
of fabrication, and the cultural meaning these objects of art had
in the Japanese world."
